The 2025 Club Championship season got off to a vibrant start on Sunday 1st June when 8 mixed doubles teams braved the blustery weather to contest the Keith Gardner Shield.

The teams played each other in a round robin format comprising 7 games of 6 ends apiece. The draw threw up some interesting pairings providing a good mix of skills and experience. Scattered showers threatened to delay proceedings at one point but the teams continued undeterred and finished the competition on time the only pause due to tea and cake provided, once again, by the brilliant Much Wenlock ladies.

The spectators were provided with an exciting finish when two teams concluded the round robin section with exactly the same number of points thus forcing a tie-break to decide the winners.

The “Gorillas”, namely Jeremy Good and Nick Mitchell faced up to the Dingos otherwise known as Julian Rudkin and Bob Perry. Funnily enough Bob was part of the inaugural winning team which first lifted the trophy in 2017.

Unfortunately for Bob, history wasn’t to repeat itself when at the end of the sudden death tie-break one of the Gorilla’s woods was half a bowl nearer to the jack so Jeremy and Nick won the title.

Our photographs show the winners and runners up with Club Chairman Tony Swales.
