August is always a busy month for us and 2026 has been no different.

All of our league teams have been battling in the main league knockout competitions reaching either the quarter or semi-finals in most cases. No finals this year but nevertheless a pretty good showing against tough opposition.

We have also run club competitions on the weekends with the Mixed Drawn Triples, the Handicap Cup and the Ladies and Men’s Singles all completed and the Mixed Drawn Doubles to be held on the last Bank Holiday weekend on Sunday 30th August.

On 2nd August we hosted the Triples comp which was won by the team comprising Tony Swales, Marilyn Fletcher and Ian Cohen. They beat Julian Rudkin, Bob Mumford and Julie Hutt in the final.

Sunday 9th August saw the completion of the Handicap Cup which started way back in April. The afternoon started with Peter Gyldard, Tony Swales, Les Davies, Tony Partridge, Jeremy Good, Julain Rudkin, Mike Mansell and Paul Taylor Junior all pitched against each other in the quarter-finals. After some excellent bowling, the final was between Tony Partridge and Jeremy Good with Tony P getting over the line to take the trophy.

On 16th August saw a packed field of competitors vying for the much-coveted singles titles. In the end Jo Cohen defeated Maggi Kings in the ladies’ singles and new member Mark Kings beat Geoff Wills in the men’s final.

Sunday 23rd August saw something a little different when we held our Bowls Fun Day when nearly 30 members and visitors completed a course of 6 whacky trials to test their skill and luck!! Winners were Jeremy and Janet Good and runners-up were Peter Iles and Peter Rigby. A raffle for Big Ted, the hard done-by star of the afternoon, was Sue Partridge, one of the few occasions when the prize was bigger than the winner!

Well done to all of our winners but also a big thank you to all members who participated in the competitions making them such enjoyable events.

Our photographs show a selection of finalists.
