Bowling Green or Brown?

What a Summer! Long hot sunny days and sweltering nights. Pundits reckon it will have been the warmest Summer on record.

No surprising then that most of the bowling greens we visit are showing signs of distress as our green at Much Wenlock is too.

Fear not, we have called in the experts to refurbish our green in the Autumn and it will be treated to aeration, deep scarifying and topdressing with a healthy dose of new seed and fertiliser. The order has been placed with local specialists Shropshire Vertidrain and Turf Services Ltd which is owned and run by crown green bowler Mike Humphries.

The work is due for completion in October giving time for everything to settle down ready for next season.

A team of our members will also be looking to come up with an action plan to help maintain the green in top condition so that we all have no excuses for dodgy bowling. Better get down to our free coaching sessions on Saturday mornings then, don’t you think?
