The Summer Club competitions have been progressing at a rapid rate and like London buses, as soon as one has gone another one comes along.

Saturday 13th July saw the Mixed Doubles attract a strong field with the honours finally going to Geoff Wills and Jo Cohen who edged out Tony Swales and Vera Hodgetts in the final.

The main comp of the season, the Presidents Cup, saw 20 members enjoy the hospitality provided by President Don Davies and Vice President Vera Hodgetts. It was held on Sunday 27th July, a lovely afternoon of bowls in perfect weather. The trophy was lifted by Jeremy Good and Peter Rigby who beat Julian Rudkin and Don Davies, of all people, in the final. A consolation was also run with prizes to winners Peter Gyldard and Vera Hodgetts and runners-up Mel Bardsley and Marilyn Fletcher. A spider was won by Marilyn Fletcher.

The Talbot Cup which dates back to 19th century was held on Sunday 3rd August and not only was the competition hot so too was the weather. Familiar names stood on the rostrum at the end of the day as the Cup went to Jeremy Good who saw off Don Davies in the final. The consolation winner was Peter Yates with Marilyn Fletcher runner-up.

Finally, the Handicap Cup which started back in April reached its climax on Sunday 10th August. Eight intrepid souls started out on finals day but in the end the two worthy competitors to reach the final were Guy Mumford and Peter Rigby. The heat of the afternoon turned it into a bit of an endurance test as much as anything and Guy edged out Peter to claim the trophy.

Our photographs show the winners with more snaps in the website gallery.
