A chilly breeze greeted the 22 entrants to the Ladies and Men’s Doubles competitions on Sunday 8th June but both players and spectators were soon warmed up by the high standard of bowling.

The first thing to note about this year’s doubles were the pairings which in some cases were a repeat of last year. Just goes to show that fate indeed can play a hand in these things. One such pairing which duplicated last year was the union between Mervyn Jarman and Jeremy Good, last year’s doubles champions and sure enough they made their way through to the final again this year. This year was a little different however in that they came across a twosome comprising one of our newest members Geoff Wills and one of our oldest members and President of the club, Don Davies.

Geoff and Don set a cracking pace to start with but were gradually hauled in by Jeremy and Mervyn who once again got the upper hand and took the title for the second successive year.

The ladies championship final had a touch of Deja Vue as well because it featured Vera Hodgetts who was half of the team which won the title last year. This year Vera was accompanied by Jo Cohen. They faced league players Marilyn Fletcher and Terry Yates who took the early lead in the final. Once again though Vera and Jo stuck to the task and steadily overhauled Marilyn and Terry to take the 2025 title.

Congratulations to all who took part and a special thank you to Janet & Jeremy Good who were running a competition for the very first time and doing a fabulous job too!!
