A strong group of 20 contenders took to the green on Sunday 9th June to vie for the titles of Ladies and Mens Doubles Champions 2024.

The afternoon was chilly for the time of year so players had to “rug up” a little but the extra layers didn’t hamper their bowling skills. Low flying aircraft from the Cosford Air Show also failed to distract the players with their eye on the title.

In the Ladies final, last year’s champion Marilyn Fletcher was paired with Paula Stevenson and although they put up a brave fight their opponents, club Vice-President Vera Hodgetts and club Secretary Sue Mawditt finally gained the upper hand to lift the trophy.

In the men’s semi-finals club Vice Chairman Mervyn Jarman and the current singles champion Jeremy Good eclipsed another brave fight put up by Peter Rigby and Duncan White to make it to the final. The other finalists were last years champion Tony Howells and club Treasurer Peter Yates who pipped club coach Tony Partridge and Peter Iles by a single shot in the semi-final.

Howells and Yates got their comeuppance though as they lost the very competitive (and very long!!!) final to Mervyn and Jeremy also by a single shot.

Our photographs show the winners receiving their trophies from Cub President Don Davies.
