Now lets be honest, the Keith Gardner Shield is not an easy trophy to win because you have to beat every other competitor on the green. Everyone knew they were in trouble though when Guy Mumford turned up looking super-cool in his sun hat and shades………..a man not to be messed with particularly when he was partnered with up and coming novice bowler Steve Crozier.

7 double teams battled it out over 4 hours on the sunny afternoon of 2nd June for this coveted trophy and every team had their ups and downs as the competition progressed. Jeremy Good and Sue Mawditt under the team name, Cougars, were holding second place with one game to play but were edged out of the runners up position by the Anacondas, namely Peter Gyldard and Alan Burr, with just two shots between them at the end.

Guy and Steve’s team name was the Eagles and, as eagles do, they soared away at the end finishing 6 shots ahead of the field after delivering 168 bowls between them during the afternoon……quite some feat.

Our picture shows Guy and Steve being presented with the Keith Gardner Shield by Club President Don Davies.
