It took over 5 hours of bowling on a busy green to sort out this year’s holders of the prestigious titles of Ladies Singles Champion and Men’s Singles Champion. The competition was held on Sunday 22nd June 2025.

Seven players vied for the ladies title including previous champions of the last 3 years Vera Hodgetts, Marilyn Fletcher and Terry Yates. It was clear from the outset though that even for the experienced players winning was not a foregone conclusion as our newer talented up and coming lady members were here and meant business.

In the event the final came down to a tussle between Vera Hodgetts, probably our longest serving lady member and Laura Fennell, one of our more recent members but a finalist in last years Handicap Cup. After 21 ends Laura was leading 19 to 13 but as we all know the last few shots are the hardest. Vera stuck to the task and finally came out champion with a 21-19 win.

Our Men’s Champion for 2025 was Julian Rudkin who faced off Geoff Wills in a tense final which finished in drizzling rain. The standard of play all afternoon was scintillating with several nip and tuck games being decided by a narrow margin. Both Julian and Geoff are fairly new members but both saw off established members in their semi-finals. Geoff got the better of our oldest member, President Don Davies and Julian had a 21-20 win over our Vice Chairman Mervyn Jarman.

A great afternoon all round. Our photos show the winners and runners up being presented with their prizes in the clubroom which is unusual but necessary due to the wet weather.
